Re: last book you've read or you're reading
Ayrween, thanks for the list.
I'll add some info on the books to help us decide.
Do you think we could propose and vote during March, and start the mc in April?
List of proposed books for the miniclub:
-'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' by Stephen Chbosky.
-'One more day' by Mitch Alborn.
-'Death on the Nile' by Agatha Christie.
And I am going to open an new thread, with the specific subject of the mc, to see if there are more people interested in it.
Here.

Re: last book you've read or you're reading
The last book that I read in English was the 4th one of Anita Blake's serie because the translation of my ebook was terrible. Probably, the next one will be one of the Legend of the Seeker or the book proposed in the MC
Re: last book you've read or you're reading
The last book I've read in English was The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison. I had to read it for a subject for the University. I liked it, but it is not one of my favourites.
Now I'm reading 1984, by George Orwell and I love it. I'm enjoying each and every word of this book. I highly recommend it to everybody. It used to be a compulsory reading in highschool in the US, but lately it was removed from the list. If you read it you will understand why.
Cheers!

I hate The Bluest Eye... Had to read it for Literary Criticism. Three times. I didn't want to read it because I thought it was going to be sleazy, but, when I read it the first time, I thought it was not so bad, and after commenting it with a friend, I even liked it. After that... having to figure out what was supposed to be hidden following different currents... well, I'm tired of it.

Laura, my dear... we do not threat anybody here... (forgive my wickedness , you didn't do it on purpose, did you?)
Lifetraveller, just propose a book and if two or more people join, we have another MC! Welcome to these conversations. You can join any of the already opened threads.

Re: last book you've read or you're reading
Well. I´m actually grateful for the warm greeting, but to speak my heart I DID feel threatened when I read LauraCo´s comments. Of course I did not feel threatened by her typo, but by the ongoing MC, a classic: "The great Gatsby", pointed out by many as one of their favourites books. I do have an advanced English level, mainly spoken, but there are several degrees and a lot of ambivalence in the "advanced" category, and I´m just starting to grasp the nuance implicit in the more complex expressions. I started to improve my once elementary English in order to be able to read the William Faulkner masterpieces and to enjoy every sip of the Nabokov´s Lolita in their original language. Of course I have read more plain literature in English, for example the Twitlight serie and the amazing Harry Potter serie, some academic books certainly, but I have too much respect for the classics... maybe one more year!.LauraCo escribió:My got Juliet!! Re: last book you've read or you're reading
Lifetraveller, don't let Gastby frighten you! We have also read "For one more day" by Mitch Albom, it's contemporary, and Agatha Christie was the first on our list.
If you are planning to read something in English soon, just say it out loud, and I'm sure some others will follow.
As far as I can see in your message, your English level is advanced. Some times bestsellers are harder to read than classics, due to the expressions they use, the type of vocabulary... So there's no need to be afraid to tackle what you call classics (after all, The Great Gastby was first published in 1925, we are not talking about Victorian literature (Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre...) that use a more archaic language.
And... we have no book for August yet...

Sure, we just need some options. So we'll have to start proposing.LauraCo escribió:We can make another poll to decide the next mc's, can't we?
(I'm currently reading London, but I think it will quite probably last until August or September or...) And I plan to read "Forastera" by Diana Gabaldon, if I finally get it in English.
Do you have anything in mind?
