Enoch Arnold Bennett fue un novelista británico. Comenzó a estudiar derecho, pero lo abandonó para dedicarse plenamente al periodismo. Publicó en diversos diarios y revistas femeninas durante los años 1893 y 1900. Posteriormente se dedicó exclusivamente a la escritura de novelas.
Se separa de su mujer francesa en 1922, y luego vive con la actriz Dorothy Cheston, hasta sus últimos días. Sus restos reposan en el cementerio de Burslem (Stoke-on-Trent).
Arnold Bennett fue un autor muy popular en su época, pero su enfrentamiento con los nuevos escritores del círculo de Bloombury, en especial con Virginia Woolf, dañaron su imagen gravemente. Incluso hoy las duras críticas que Virginia Woolf lanzó contra él en Mr. Bennett y Mrs. Brown influyen en la lectura que se hace de su obra.
