Fuente: WikipediaEscritora estadounidense. Pasó la mitad de su vida en China, adonde la llevaron sus padres misioneros con tres meses de edad y donde vivió unos cuarenta años. Es conocida por el apellido de uno de sus maridos ya que su apellido de soltera era Sydenstricker.
Su bilingüismo le hizo sentir de forma especialmente profunda el tema oriente-occidente que ha quedado reflejado en gran parte de sus obras además de tratar desde un principio cuestiones feministas que luego marcarían su vida con labores en consonancia con sus ideas, la publicación de la revista Asia y culminando con la Fundación que lleva su nombre.
Fue una escritora muy pródiga – tiene en su haber unas setenta obras - y especialmente sensible en su aproximación a los temas, como se puede observar en su primer libro publicado en 1930 East wind, West wind.
Fue Premio Pulitzer en 1932 y Premio Nobel de literatura en 1938, la primera mujer en conseguir ambos premios.
Pearl Buck murio en 1973 de cáncer de pulmón.

Sobre los 20 años leí muchas de sus novelas (mis preferidas: Viento del Este, viento del Oeste, La madre, Peonía, Pabellón de mujeres y, especialmente, La buena tierra)
La semana pasada estuve en la casa de mi abuela, donde tiene varias novelas de Buck y me entró cierta nostalgia, así que buscaré alguna de las que no he leído y otra más para la lista de pendientes
