Biografía
Segundo de diez hermanos, Barrie nació en Kirriemuir, Angus y fue educado en The Glasgow Academy y la Universidad de Edimburgo. Ejerció de periodista en Nottingham, luego en Londres, y luego pasó a ser novelista y posteriormente autor teatral.
Nombrado baronet en 1913, Barrie está enterrado en Kirriemuir junto a sus padres, su hermana y su hermano mayor David, quien había muerto en un accidente de patinaje justo antes de cumplir los 14 años.
Dramaturgo y novelista escocés cuyas obras ponen de manifiesto su particular e irónico sentido de la vida como aventura romántica. Barrie nació en Kirriemuir y estudió en la Universidad de Edimburgo. En 1885 se fue a vivir a Londres y escribió para la St James's Gazette y otras muchas revistas. Sus primeros libros contienen apuntes sobre la vida de las aldeas de Escocia. Después de El pequeño ministro (1891), una novela romántica de amor y aventura, escribió Tommy el sentimental (1895) y su continuación, Tommy y Grizel (1900). Su obra de teatro Londres (1893) fue un éxito en su estreno londinense. Su siguiente obra dramática fue la comedia La historia de amor del profesor (1894). Calle Quality (1901), El admirable Crichton (1902) y Mary (1903) precedieron a la primera representación de la hoy mundialmente famosa obra fantástica Peter Pan (1904). En esta obra Barrie trata sus dos temas favoritos, la conservación de la inocencia infantil y lo que consideraba el instinto femenino de la maternidad.
